Our Team

Corey is the founder and CEO of Core, and as a third generation real estate developer, brings considerable breadth and depth of professional experience to the management and oversight of the company.

In addition to Core, Corey has founded and successfully grown three affiliate construction companies including Mazenga Building Group, one of Toronto’s most exclusive commercial and residential builders. Corey’s success has been driven by his passion for process driven management and value optimization of Core’s investments.

Corey studied at Guelph University with a major in Finance and Economics.

Shaunt serves as President at Avanew and is responsible for operations, business development, property management, and acquisitions of income-generating residential assets across Canada.

Shaunt has over fifteen years of experience in capital markets, M&A and private equity operations. Prior to joining Core, he was a founding Partner at Solon Capital Partners, a West-Africa focused private equity firm. In addition to evaluating investment opportunities and deploying the firm’s capital, while at Solon Shaunt co-founded three of the firm’s operating businesses and served in a variety of operating roles across their portfolio. Prior to that, Shaunt worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch where he was focused on M&A and mining industry coverage.

Shaunt holds an Honours in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

As Chief Investment Officer, Alex leads the acquisition and underwriting team for Core’s investment portfolio which encompasses asset diligence, transaction structuring and financing, as well as investor relations.

Prior to joining Core, Alex was a Vice President at Forum Equity Partners, where he contributed to advancing the company’s real estate and renewables investments. Alex’s early career was established in investment banking, focusing on M&A, public equity and debt financing: primarily in the natural resources sector. Alex has held investment banking positions in Toronto, London and New York, most recently with Goldman Sachs.

Alex holds an Honors Business Administration degree from The Ivey Business School and a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree from The University of Western Ontario.

Since joining Avanew in 2022, Marc Orticello has been responsible for overseeing construction operations and managing property maintenance, Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) matters, and tenant collections. His involvement ensures that Avanew’s properties are managed efficiently while maintaining a high standard of service for tenants and stakeholders alike.

Marc brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as Director of Operations at an architectural millwork firm, where he spent seven years managing business operations including project scheduling, financial forecasting, job costing, and research & development. His comprehensive background has equipped Marc with the strategic insight and operational expertise needed to navigate the complexities of property management with precision and effectiveness.

Introducing Palak Kothari, the Director of Finance for Avanew. Palak graduated with an Honours in Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in Accounting from DeGroote School of Business. As a certified Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Palak brings an impressive track record in finance and project accounting, honed in her noteworthy tenures at the organizations MNP LLP and Aecon Group.

At Avanew Team, Palak expertly handles the diverse array of financial responsibilities. She guides the company through the intricacies of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, while simultaneously ensuring seamless accounting execution. Her attention to detail is apparent in her oversight of accounting policies, processes, practices, and in her meticulous handling of audit and tax compliance.

As an Associate on the Investments team, Sean focuses on raising and deploying capital which encompasses underwriting, preparation of investment materials, transaction structuring, asset diligence, evaluating land development opportunities, and investor relations.

Prior to joining Avanew, Sean worked on the Investments team at Avanew’s parent company, Core Development Group, and as a Financial Analyst at OYA Solar, where he contributed to all aspects of business development and M&A execution, including raising capital, financial modelling and transaction execution.

Sean graduated with distinction from the Smeal College of Business at Pennsylvania State University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Finance along with a Certificate in Real Estate Analysis & Development

As a Senior Analyst, Brendan occupies a dynamic role, balancing his contributions across the Investments and Asset Management teams. His responsibilities include underwriting, crafting investment materials, and undertaking capital-raising initiatives. Additionally, Brendan seeks to foster and maintain healthy relationships with financial partners and external vendors.

Prior to joining Avanew, Brendan served as a Capital Markets Analyst at Lantern Real Estate in New York City. In this capacity, Brendan supported the Capital Markets team, focusing on developing debt and structured financing strategies for clients across various asset classes.

Brendan graduated from Western University before earning his Master of Science in Finance degree from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University where he graduated with Honours

Jovan serves as Leasing Manager and is responsible for leading the firm’s unit marketing, tenant screening, and leasing functions. Prior to joining Avanew, Jovan spent a decade working in property management for CAPRIET, Concert Properties, and RPMS. Jovan graduated from New York Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in communication and media management. Before starting his property management career, Jovan worked in the media industry for the National Basketball Association (NBA TV) in New York City.

Sarah Haula is a seasoned professional based in Sault Ste. Marie, serving as a property manager for Avanew’s Northern Ontario portfolio. Her career spans various positions in property management, including overseeing 300+ properties for Portsmouth Residential and managing large apartment complexes for Skyline Living and Balnar Management Ltd. Sarah holds a Human Resources and Office Administration Diploma from Progressive Training College, supplemented by certificates in Entrepreneurship from Conestoga College and Hotel Management from Starline Training Institute.

Core Development Group is continuously innovating to be at the forefront of technology and Konrad works to make this happen. With a Robotics Engineering Degree from McMaster University and 8 years of experience as a software developer and data specialist Konrad leads all software implementations for the organization.

Prior to joining Core, Konrad was a Software Engineer at KPMG and a Senior Data Specialist at Deloitte. He worked with partnerships, REIT structures, and big data analytics. He has coded in over 15 different languages, but his favoured ones are Python, VBA and SQL. At Core Konrad uses his coding and data algorithms skills to craft solutions to any challenge.

Laura serves as General Counsel for Core. In her role she is responsible for ensuring our developments have all the proper legal protections. She is responsible for all legal, corporate secretarial, sustainability, ethics, compliance, insurance/bonding, and privacy matters. She is also the liaison while engaging external counsel where necessary for various legal matters.

Laura has an LL.M.CL from University of British Columbia in addition to an LL.B from University of Kent, and a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies from the University of Western Ontario.
